The romantic Brisbane proposal was featured in Same Same Weddings Magazine, Ninth Edition 2022 & Brisbane Weddings Magazine, Autumn 2022 Edition
The date
“The 21st is our thing! We went on our first date on 21st January and got together a month later on 21st February. We got engaged on 21st December 2021, the Summer Equinox in the southern hemisphere.
We plan to marry on 21st June 2024, the Summer Equinox in the northern hemisphere. We will likely get married in Split, Croatia, a historical Adriatic seaside beach town with chill vibes.”
How they met
Dave Nolan and Mark Lord met at a college house party through friends and matched on Tinder six years later.
The proposal
“Being a big romantic, Dave set up the proposal and organised a vintage picnic. He had asked Edwina, the photographer, to hide in the bushes to capture every moment.”
Dave shares, “It was the only time I have ever surprised Mark and I managed to pull it off without his detective intuition catching me out. What makes it more glorifying is Mark said I could never surprise him for a proposal, so it was a case of ‘challenge accepted’. Mark actually noticed Edwina in the bushes and said, ‘Dave, there’s a woman hovering over there in the bushes’, but got no response from me so he let it go. We shared a picnic and bottle of vino and I then asked Mark to remove the blanket on the sign. He was a bit slow to move so I got up and then ‘dirtied the knee’ and asked Mark to read the sign which read: ‘Mark, will you marry me?’ As he says himself, he may have blacked out for a moment with the nerves as he doesn’t recall saying ‘yes’, but I can confirm he did!”
“We kissed and then realised we had attracted a cheering crowd of 30+ onlookers who were either walking by or training in the park. Mark’s legs then gave way and he proceeded to polish off the bottle of Sauv Blanc! We finished up watching the Brisbane sunset and having professional photos taken by Edwina.”
